FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Do you have to live in
Muskego to play for the
Stars?
No, while many of the girls who tryout for the Stars may live in Muskego our rosters are filled with the most qualified athlete. In the past we’ve had many players from surrounding areas including Milwaukee, New Berlin, Mukwonago, Franklin, South Milwaukee, etc. It is not uncommon to see many of our rosters contain several different schools.
Do the Star's teams travel
for tournaments?
We encourage most of our tournament play to be no more than a two hour travel time from Muskego. Teams are also encouraged to organize at least one overnight tournament (Green Bay, Madison, Oshkosh, Illinois, etc) which still permits players to participate in the tournament if they can’t make the sleep over.
Are teams chosen before
a tryout?
Everyone that participates in tryouts have an equal chance of making a team. We encourage past players to come back the following year to compete. This DOES NOT guarantee them a roster position. We are interested in putting the best team we can on the floor at all times. We post the players schools on the web site after the teams are made so everyone can see they are just not Muskego players. Like other clubs, we also experience normal attrition as players move to different programs.
Do I need to attend BOTH
tryouts?
It is always best to attend both tryouts, however, we realize that there are many clubs that are offering their tryouts at the same time. If an athlete can't be at the tryout, or will be late, make sure to register in advance and let the coaching staff know who she is, and try to contact the coach so they are aware of your plans. This information will give the coaching staff the opportunity to know about your daughter and her position, etc. I didn't register in advance.
Can I still tryout?
Absolutely! Unfortunately, the tryout fee will be slightly higher. Its unavoidable as we are trying to avoid the extra work involved with registering the same time as tryouts. That said, we still want to see you even though it means more work for us on that day. What is covered in the
club dues?
The club dues include: equipment, uniforms (1 pair of shorts and 2 shirts), USA Volleyball registration, regional tournament entry fees, insurance, coaches' stipend, practice expenses and other costs of administration. If a team wishes to participate in additional tournaments (including national qualifiers) players may be charged an additional fee. Expenses incurred for possible overnight stays are also incremental to the club dues. All additional tournament participation is always subject to coach and team approvals.
Can you play another sport
while playing for the Stars?
Most of our athletes participate in multiple activities (basketball, dance, etc). This is especially true at the younger ages where girls are still exploring different venues. All we ask is that you your involvement in Stars is equally represented to your other activities. As an example, that may mean at times basketball be the lesser priority for a day or you can't make a volleyball tournament for a day due to other commitments.
How often do teams practice?
Teams typically practice twice a week. Once during the week and once on the weekend. The days may vary by team.
Do you participate in leagues
or tournaments?
Our teams participate in tournaments. Most start and finish on the same day while others may span the weekend. Our fee's are developed with 6 playing days in mind but some teams may choose to participate in additional tournaments. See Base dues FAQ for additional info.
Do your teams participate in
national qualifiers ?
Yes, however participation in a qualifier and/or nationals tournament are subject to coach and team approvals. These events may require extensive traveling (Indianapolis, Minnesota, Los Vegas, etc). The events typically start on a Friday which will require travel on Thursday which impacts school and other family commitments. See Base dues FAQ for additional info.
What qualifications do you
have for your coaching staff?
All USAV volleyball coaches are required to have completed IMPACT certification. Beyond the base qualification, coaches are encouraged to also participate in CAP I or II training. All of our coaches have prior club coaching experience and/or are also high school volleyball coaches.
Do you allow parents to
coach?
We have had parent coaches and STRONGLY encourage parent participation. If parents are interested in coaching, we interview them and subject them to the same qualification processes as our other coaches. We have had A LOT of success when parents are involved coaching a team.
Where are practices held?
Practices are held in the Muskego area. Typically at Muskego High School (MHS), Lake Denoon or Bay Lane middle schools. All the facilities have ample space and the appropriate equipment. See our website for exact directions [LINKS]
How many teams do you
sponsor?
We hope to have at least one team from ages 11 through 18. Additional teams are dependant upon coaches and tryout participants. As initial tryouts completes, we are then able to finalize any possible second teams for an age group.
Do you have a boys program?
At this time we DO NOT carry a boys program. Coaching is always an initial limiting factor in any programs ability to expand. If you are interested in helping promote a boys program through the Muskego Stars, contact the club director (director@muskegostars.com) to see if a program could be developed.
How will my daughter know
if she made a team?
( Club Offers )
During tryouts (first or second sessions), it is very possible for a coach to approach your daughter and offer her a spot on a team. If she does not receive an offer from the Stars after BOTH tryouts, it is still possible to receive an offer after the tryouts.
If you have an offer from another team but prefer to play for the Muskego Stars, YOU CAN still wait to accept the other offer. All verbal offers are binding up until Tuesday evening (5pm) following the 2nd tryout. That means you can WAIT until that time before you commit to another team. Until that time, you can continue to check our website ( Teams page) to see if a teams roster is filled.
Please understand that if you accept our offer or any other club (verbal or written) you are committing yourself to that program for the club year.
That said, if you receive an offer from the Muskego Stars but decide to accept a different offer PLEASE contact us ASAP so we can fill your spot.
Do you have to be a certain
age to play ?
The earliest that USAV competion can start is in the 12's division. We do offer teams starting at age 11 (participants can be younger if you qualify). Refer to the club overview page to see exact age breakdowns.
I don't see my question.. Please email your question at info@muskegostars.com
